It was established by Ntungamo District Local Government in 2011 to train Nurses and Midwives programs and started in Itojo Hospital. The school was later relocated to Nyarutuntu campus located in Keijengye cell, Nyaburiza Parish, Nyarutuntu Sub County, Ruhaama County at the former Ruhaama Saza Headquarters along Ntungamo – Mirama Hills (9kms).The Institute is run by a Governing Council appointed from time to time following the guidance of Universities and other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 as amended 2006
